The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
